Line of Respect for Sgt. Scott Burgess
Friday, April 15th, 2011
Thanks to Westboro Baptist, there will actually be people PROTESTING this hero’s funeral in Franklin. In order to block these radicals message of hate from the mourners, a “Line of Respect” will be formed by whoever can show up today. That line of respect will continue between the protesters and the family/friends of Sgt. Burgess to the funeral in Wheelock. Here are the details:
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Franklin, Texas. Burial will follow in the Wheelock Cemetery.
If you can make time today, please help!!

As a Franklin resident,Mother of sons that knew Scott, and the mother of an Army veteran injured in Iraq, I was proud of the way my neighbors all over the state came together to honor our fallen Hero. To the family, all my prayers are with you. To our soldiers, God bless you. And to Westboro, glad you didn’t come. For your sake. There’s the law and then there’s Booger County.
I was part of the military honors team that was at the funeral. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who was able to be there. As a soldier it makes me proud that people are there for us. Again thank you so much.
Hi, this is Sam Burgess, Scotty’s dad, thank you so much for your service and you and the guys with you in Wheelock Friday. You made us proud, Deb and I are so proud of you and what you do. Be sure and tell the other Soldiers with you that we have a great deal of respect for you and we support you and are so thankful that you folks heard the call when your country needed you.
God Bless.
Sam Burgess
You’re in my prayers Sam…I’m proud to know you…people like you (and your son) make America great. Waldo
Dear Mr. Burgess,
Im Sgt. Salazar and I just wanted to say I’m sorry for what happened to Sgt. Burgess. I’m with the platoon Sgt. Burgess was in, and it hurts us all and somedays it feels surreal..if you wanna email me you can at barsalad@hotmail.com////Ok sir hope to hear from you soon,,Thank you,,,
Just want to give everyone a heads up that the services were conducted without any problems. I did not see a single protestor or picket sign. I’m sure the Westboro folks realized that Franklin was the wrong town to try to protest a fallen hero. This was a tightly knit community that supports the troops whole-heartedly. Thank you Franklin residents for the love and support as we laid my friend to rest. God bless you.
Thank you Tommie, we are forever grateful. God bless you and that awesome family that you have.
Deb and I will be forever grateful!
Sam
My husband just joined the army. I have always abhorred this… cultish group, and that’s not about to go away. If I didn’t live a few states north I’d be there in a heartbeat.
Wish I could be there…and txangel65, you could not have said it better. My husband is a Vietnam Veteran, what they went through on their return home is pretty much the same as what these protesters are doing, they are the one’s spewing hate…God have mercy on them…..and God forgive me for not wanting to have mercy on them……
I don’t usually voice my opinion very much but it’s hard for me to keep silent. As a military wife of a soldier that served in Iraq and Afghanistan, I feel the need to say my piece!! These people from Westboro Baptist church should be ashamed to call themselves Christians…. a true Christian knows that God is where true judgement comes from. They have the audacity to hide behind faith when they have no idea what it is!! But He will be there when there judgement day comes and they will have no excuse for their actions. I pray that these people on day see what they are doing is not a Christian act and may God have mercy on their souls. Amen!!
Where do we need to go? Church or Cemetary?
Information I have found: “After the funeral service in Franklin, they will be a Line of Respect to start here in town and go to the cemetery in Wheelock. When the procession leaves the church they will go down to Calvert St. turn left on Calvert St, left on Dechard/FM1644, right on FM 46 to Wheelock, at Wheelock take a right on FM 391 to cemetery. They would like people to line up on the streets in town and on the west side of FM 46 and the north side of FM 391. Please come and support this Fallen Hero and his family. If you able to attend and you have an American flag bring it and wear your yellow and black ribbons.”
