Coach Turgeon could be leaving for Maryland

According to reports on Texags.com Texas A&M Men’s Basketball Coach, Mark Turgeon is on the verge of accepting the Head Coach position at the University of Maryland. Apparently they are offering him a $2.8 million a year contract, and if that’s the case, Coach T, go make your money.  He has done a great job here for the Aggies, and I am glad that he’s been our coach.

Now with him leaving so late in the year, that does leave the A&M program with some questions.  First, with all the other coaching candidates already signed to jobs, its going to be hard for the Aggies to find a “Quality” replacement. Second, we have to look at Turgeon’s recruiting commitments who now may change their minds about coming to Texas A&M.  Will Branch and Green still come play in College Station?  We will find out in the next few days.

After seeing this coach interact with his team over the past few years, I have a feeling he won’t make an officialy announcement until he’s spoken with his current team.  No matter how it plays out, I wish coach Turgeon the best of luck, in all his endeavors.  Maryland isn’t Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, or North Carolina, but it’s still a well respected program with a great fanbase.

Now, as for our next head coach, I know a guy who likes to fish, is a calm mild mannered coach, and knows how to win CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!  He’s got 11 NBA Championship rings and he just left his last head coaching position…

and thanks to our photoshop gurus he looks good in Maroon!!!  Come on Bill Byrne give the Zen Master a call, he can fish at Gibbons Creek, we’ll get him a hookup.
