Questionable Billboard Gets Defaced. Was it Racist To Begin With?

Sons of Confederate Veterans. Yeah, I get it. But if you had “Sons of Nazi Veterans” we probably wouldn’t think it was too cool, right? In Frito’s opinion it’s the same thing. Notice the noose. Law enforcement is trying to figure out who added this extra bit of racism to an already questionable billboard. Here’s the link to the story that ran on KBTX last night.

The Nazi comparison was over the top.  Ask Hank Williams what happens when you start comparing people to Nazis.  Over 60 million people were killed during WW2 and you have the nerve or ignorance to compare a group of Americans to Nazis.  Hopefully your station or advertisers will apologize for your words.

    The questions I have are

    1) Have you ever been to a meeting with this group and
    2) How much background knowledge to you have about this org?

My dad is a member of the local chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. From what he tells me, the chapter’s purpose is to promote history. There is nothing involved in the chapter that has to do with racism, and the chapter actually has several black members as well.
As of recently, the org has been very clear about their positions on racism and discrimination, and has constantly counter-protested KKK rallies (you can look this up). We become members of this group not because we are racist, but because we are proud that our ancestors had the courage to fight something that was far bigger than they were. Most of the members’ ancestors, including mine, were strictly against slavery and thought it was wrong. Notably, Robert E. Lee himself never owned a slave and thought that slavery was wrong. Regardless, they left home and fought because that was what they were asked to do, and they felt that their states had the right to be wrong.

Of course, there are some members of some chapters who are going to have questionable views on the matter, but find me a society or group that doesn’t have a few nuts and I’ll eat my shoes. And this morning, you have the gall to self-righteously lecture all of us on something that, from my understanding, you clearly know nothing about? You should be embarrassed.

Let’s be honest here. From now on the confederate flag should just be called what it really is, an “I hate minorities” flag.  The noose just brought to light what the billboard was really about in the first place.

The noose likely has NOTHING to do with the group itself. Do you know Frito, if this group actually put this there? Tell me??????????? Just like graffiti. Are you going to blame the companies that the graffiti is on for something offensive written? I think your story took a wrong turn.
