Championship weekend is over, and the Brackets are set. How will you do this year? Did you pay attention to which conferences were the strongest? Do you know who the best teams are historically? Do you pick based on the colors of the uniforms? Or Do you make your picks based on which mascot would win in a head to head real life battle? No matter how you pick ‘em, it’s that time of year and this year they’ve made it even tougher, now we have 4 play in games to pick before our field of 64 is set. So get your brackets out and start sending me your emails now…firstname.lastname@example.org I will answer all your questions and help you with your brackets. Or just continue reading and I will give you my dead solid upset locks, I will tell you which teams are OVER-RATED, and which matchups to watchout for. This is March and THIS IS MADNESS!!!!!
Starting in the East Region, I am going with the #1 seed Ohio State, they are more talented, more athletic and have a deep bench. They really should coast through this Region unless they get caught trading jerseys and practice shorts for tattoos. Upsets on this side: Marquette could beat Xavier and I pick the winner of that game to knock Syracuse out of the tournament in the second round. The East should end up with a 1 vs 2 matchup between OSU and UNC, and I think the Buckeyes are too strong and will make it to the Final Four.
The Southwest Regional is the toughest for me to pick, it’s where my Aggies got a
BS 7 seed. It is also the region that hosts Kansas, UNLV, Louisville, Purdue, Notre Dame, and Illinois, all teams with a legit look at making a run deep into the Tournament. There are no cakewalks in this Region, IF Texas A&M can get past the Seminoles in the first round, we are a great matchup vs Notre Dame, that game might end up 39-38, but we have better athletes and a deeper bench. Illinois vs UNLV is a coin toss, Louisville should edge out Vandy in the second round after each team sleep walks through their first round games. Kansas can beat UNLV, but Illinois will give them fits. Purdue will rock Georgetown and Notre Dame, but if the Aggies face Purdue, we’ve got a little payback on our mind! This is where my brackets will probably FAIL but I see the Southwest Region going to one of these 2 teams:
The West Regional is a JOKE. This is where the selection committee kisses Coach K’s A$$ and gives him the easiest route to the Final Four they can. Arizona is over rated and could lose to Memphis, Rick Barnes’s fantastic freshman are already counting the dollars in their NBA contracts, San Diego St. is WAY OVER RATED and will lose in the second round to either Temple or Penn State, U Conn will beat Mizzou in the 2nd Round and ultimately fall to Duke in the Regional Final game. The West is Easy to pick, DUKE is DUKE, and as much as I can’t stand the school, the team, and their COMMUNIST style of play, they make the Final Four Again.
Finally, that leaves us with the Southeast Regional. This one is another fun bracket, with tons of Over Rated teams: Kansas State is not a 5 seed, BYU lost their best player and will Lose early again, Pittsburgh is tough but not a #1 seed, and Wisconsin could pull it out at as a 4 seed and win this regional. 1st round is fairly straight forward, I only foresee 2 upsets in the first round. Gonzaga and St Johns is going to be a dog fight, this game should’ve been a sweet 16 matchup. UCLA is over rated, Tom Izzo and the Spartans will spank the Bruins. The 8 vs 9 matchup is basically a coin toss. After that, look for Wisconsin to ROLL over K-STATE and Pittsburgh. Both St Johns and Gonzaga can and will beat BYU, Fridette scores a lot, but he jacks up 40 shots a game, Basketball is a Team Sport and BYU has no support for JIMMAY, I mean Jimmer, Cougars are 2nd round losers AGAIN! Florida is tough, but the SEC is weak this year, Michigan State is down, but still has a better coach. I see a Big 10 matchup for this regional championship. Badgers vs Spartans, both teams won on the road in their regular season split, but the tie break is going to go to…
So there you go, I’ve given you my Final Four or Five. Remember, I’m just a radio DJ, not a professional Bracketologist. Now in retrospect, I don’t like having 2-3 Big 10 teams in the Final Four, but they have been given the easiest roads in. 85% of the NCAA tournament was decided on Selection Sunday when the Seeding took place, but don’t forget there was 5 months of Basketball leading up to this point. Good Luck to the Aggies, after seeing Colorado get snubbed and K-State get a higher seed (for NO Apparent Reason) just making it to the dance is a great accomplishment.
