Some days I wish I was still a Student!

With the weather dropping 50+ degrees in less than 12 hours, and Super Bowl XLV coming up, it can be easy to get caught up in what’s happening in Texas and our own little lives. However there are major events unfolding in the world, and I’m not talking about a new season of American Idol.  Last week major protests began in Egypt, calling for Democracy and the end of President Mubarak’s 30 year reign.  Today over a million Egyptians have taken to the streets demanding that Mubarak give up power.  Since Mubarak has been in office, Egypt has been an ally to the United States and maintained fairly peaceful relations with Israel. In my opinion, the United States government has been hesitant to back the protesters and their demands for Democracy, because Mubarak hasn’t caused problems for the U.S. or Israel.

Now, if I took everything I heard on the news or TV as the gospel truth, I would regurgitate some of the statistics the talking heads are going on about, but that’s not my style.  This is one area where I wish I was still a Student at Texas A&M, studying Political Science.  I would like to hear insights from professors as well as students from Egypt and the Middle East, to see what they had to say.  I’m sure Dr. Geva’s Foreign Policy class is a very interesting place for discussion today.

Whatever the outcome, there are changes happening in the Middle East right now.  I am watching to see what comes next.  Does Mubarak try to have the Egyptian Army enforce martial law and stop the protests with force, does he step down and allow opposition parties to form a new peaceful democratic government, or do the fundamentalist extremists move in and take control either by coup or legal elections?  These are the questions I have, and why I’m watching this situation so closely.  I do hope for a peaceful resolution, with no more loss of life, and in the end leaves the world with an Egypt still open to the West.

We shouldn’t get so caught up in our own little worlds that we forget there is a much bigger world out there. For more info here’s a link to the story on today’s yahoo news.

In and Out Burger coming to Texas!

Finally, I don’t have to go to Vegas or LA to get an In and Out Burger!!!

It was touch-and-go for a while, but it seems like In-N-Out Burger may finally be sprouting in North Texas. While we continue to wait patiently, Dallas is whipping itself into a Super Bowl frenzy.
