I’m sure that Fightin’ Texas Aggie Roger Creager has his fair share of great Chilifest stories. He’s played it a few times and spending his college years in College Station, no doubt he went to a few of those early ones.
My first real memory of Roger Creager goes back to October 16, 2003. Yes, I remember the specific date because after Roger finished his set at the Dixie Dancehall in Beaumont, TX, he was signing autographs and game 7 of the 2003 American League Championship Series was on TV’s over by the pool tables. Aaron Boone hits a home run and I proclaim “*#&$ Yankees!” to which Roger turns to me and replies “Yeah, *#&% the Yankees!” That might be one of the most random memories I have stored in my brain ha.
Since then I’ve seen Roger on just about every time he’s come through whatever town I’ve been living in. Just before Christmas 2013, he stopped into the Tap for a very special Piano Bar night with his band. It was easily one of the coolest and most unique performances I’ve ever seen in my life. He was up there singing his songs, some old school sing along songs, and some songs from buddies of his like Randy Rogers, Wade Bowen, and Stoney LaRue. It was such a relaxed night of a band just having fun.
Having fun pretty much sums up what Roger Creager is all about. If you catch an episode of Troubadour, TX that features him, you’ll see a guy who enjoys life and has as much fun on stage as his does off stage. It seems that every time I talk to Roger, he’s either getting ready for a vacation of skiing or going to a tropical island, OR just got back from one. Few can match the stage show and the charisma of Roger Creager.
Songs you should definitely check out before getting out to Chilifest:
“Things Look Good Around Here”
Just because most of Roger’s famous songs are hell raising, good timing songs, doesn’t mean he can’t slow it down, check out “For You I Do”
Even as an acoustic song, “Turn It Up” makes me wanna hit the road and crank up some tunes with the windows down and TURN IT UP!
And how about a little live acoustic version of perhaps his most famous song “Everclear” to wrap this up?!
