Those darn teenagers

A new survey came up with the average statistics for all the awful things your teenagers do on an average year. Don’t fret though, that all changes when they go off to college, right??

Shout at you – 59 times
Sulk – 71 times
Say they hate you – 27 times, which works out to about once every 2 weeks
Refuses to talk to you – 51 times
Threatens to leave home – 21 times
Answers back – 95 times
Asks for money – 70 times
Slams doors – 51 times
Arrives home late – 38 times
Worries about looks – 74 times
Locks themselves in the bathroom – 66 times
Falls out with friends – 36 times

So for those of us without teenagers, this is some of what we have to look forward to? Great…

I dunno, maybe I just blocked it out, but I don’t remember doing these things that many times throughout my entire teenage years, much less is just one!

Parents, what do you do to your teens who do these things?

A reason I might watch DWTS

I don’t watch a lot of reality TV, especially the competition shows like The Voice, American Idol, or Dancing With The Stars. However, I think I might start watching this latest DWTS season for one reason. I love me some Winnie Cooper!

Yes, the beautiful Danica McKellar is approaching 40 and still looking hot!

This actually won’t be the first time that Danica and Candace Cameron-Bure have faced off in the world of Dance. Check this out from the 90’s if you haven’t already! Fast forward to the 38 second mark for the ladies facing off over a boy!

Winnie Cooper showing DJ Tanner that she can’t hang, ha!

Chilifest 2014 Spotlight: Randy Rogers Band

I don’t have a lot of recollections from the early-mid 2000’s. That was many beers ago, plus, I don’t really have the best memory to begin with. However, in about late 2002, I do remember hearing a CD from this band called Like It Randy-Rogers-Band-CountryMusicRocks.net_Used To Be. Ever since then, I’ve been a huge fan of the Randy Rogers Band. Songs like “Tommy Jackson” and “Friends With Benefits” still get lots of requests on Texas country radio. Their next project Rollercoaster is still considered one of the best Texas/Red Dirt CD’s of the last 15 years. So many of those songs are still staples to the RRB live shows.

Speaking of live shows, that’s one of the things that sets the Randy Rogers Band apart from so many others. It’s a reason they’ve had the longevity that they’ve had. Randy isn’t as theatrical as a Kevin Fowler, but he gets the crowd to feel like a part of the performance. Having amazing players like Brady Black on the fiddle doesn’t hurt either. Fiddle players in the Texas/Red Dirt scene are rock stars in their own right. Most of the best touring bands have great fiddle players. Johnny Chops is another guy that has his own rock star moments. When he’s not slapping the bass for the RRB, he’s got his own project going. Geoffey Hill is a hell of a guitar player, but he might have missed his true calling (along with Brady) of being a professional washer player. That leaves us with the man who sits behind everyone else, Mr. Les Lawless. Sure, he may spend 90% of his night being blocked by the other guys, but his talent shines on his solos. He can also play a mean kazoo. The thing that sets them apart from most bands, is that they truly are a BAND.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Randy Rogers Band show that wasn’t just packed to the gills with fans singing along to every single song the sing. The impressive thing to me, is that even right after they come out with a new CD, the fans know every word within a matter of days.

Maybe you’re not as familiar with the band as others are, so I’ll help you out and give you some of my favorite tunes from the guys that you should check out.

“Kiss Me In The Dark” is the one that most casual fans will know.

If you’re looking for something a little more WILD AND CRAZY, check out “Fuzzy.”

Then there’s always “In My Arms Instead” to change it up for something a little slower.

These are just three songs with video, but there are so many other songs that will make you party, make you cry, touch your soul, and may help you get touched in other ways (if ya know what I mean!)

Chilifest 2014 will feature the Randy Rogers Band just in front of the legendary Hank Williams Jr.! Don’t miss out on one of the hottest acts touring Texas and beyond, along with the other great bands April 5th in Snook, Tx, Cody Johnson, Roger Creager, and the Turnpike Troubadours! Superman & Star Wars

Did you see this video of what these guys thought it’d be like if Superman had a GoPro?

I saw the headline and wondered how it’d be done. Beside some cheesy arm movements while flying, I think it’s pretty great! What do you think?

In other nerd news, n a recent meeting with shareholders, Disney released a few more details about the seventh “Star Wars” movie. It’ll be set 30 years after “Return of the Jedi” .  They will begin filming it in London in May.  It should hit theaters in December of 2015. For now, the only confirmed cast member is R2-D2StarWars.com reports that the movie will star, quote, “a trio of new young leads along with some very familiar faces.”

It’s long been rumored that HARRISON FORD, CARRIE FISHER and MARK HAMILL will return in some capacity.  And that would make sense age-wise, because it’s also been just over 30 years since “Return of the Jedi” came out.

Disney also announced that Pixar will produce a third “Cars” movie . . . and that they’re also developing a sequel to “The Incredibles”.

Chilifest song of the Week: Turnpike Troubadours

One of the bands I’ve been keeping my eye on to be one of the big name festival headliners for a few years now is the Turnpike Troubadours. These guys from Oklahoma have a cool distinctive sound and put on a stage show that always leaves ya wanting more! That’s why I was so excited when I heard they were lined up for Saturday of Chilifest. I’ve seen them play in front of 50 people and I’ve seen them play in front of 2,000. To be able to see them in front of over 40,000 will be a special moment for me as a fan!

They’re working on a new record right now, but one of my favorites off of their last one is called “Gin, Smoke, and Lies.” Check out the video to it!

Don’t miss this a single minute of their set, you’ll love it, I guarantee!

Adam Drake

Monday-Friday: 6p-10p

Howdy! Yes, another Adam joining in the Candy 95 craziness. I couldn’t be more excited to be here. Some people in town might recognize me as I’ve worked at a few other stations in the market, including a few month stop at Candy back in 2010. You might also realize that most of my time in radio has been spent doing country music. I do love me some honky-tonking country, but have a varied taste. Don’t believe me, just challenge me in SongPop and find out for yourself!

I’m a bit of a smart aleck with strong opinions, but also pride myself on being a pretty alright guy. Most of my time is spent with my wife and amazing son. If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you’ll no doubt see your fair share of pics of him.

If I can’t go to a place wearing boots and jeans, I probably don’t wanna be there in the first place.
