Krashing Down Survivor: Episode 8

Episode 8: “This Game Respects Big Moves”

Wow wow wo did this episode not go the way I expected!  Let the games begin!  The episode started off with the final duel (or so we thought) at redemption.  It was Sarita versus Matty in a standing endurance challenge.  If I ever got on the show I would totally struggle on these!  It has got to be hard to stand on pegs and not move an inch of your body for hours at a time.  Anyhow as expected Matty pulled through in a close duel, as both entire tribes watched.  Promptly after the duel the merge was announced, and stage II of Survivor was set to begin.

The Only Thing To Fear Is Fear Itself

Historically the quickest way to get voted out of Survivor is to play scared.  If you get on the show you must do your homework and know exactly how to play it cool!  It happens every season, you get a paranoid player or two that pretty much vote themselves out.  This may have been the best case, ever in Survivor history this week!  Matty returned from redemption at the merge and immidiately had discussions with former ally Andrea.  Considering it had been weeks since Matty has been in the social game, a lot has changed.  Andrea listened to a possible plan Matty had derived to take out Boston Rob but was not convinced.  Mike from the former Zapatera approached Matty with a dang good deal in my opinion.  He offered Matty to jump the ship vote with them and possibly blindside Rob and Grant.  Even if they want to be Ometepe loyals, YOU HAVE TO TARGET STRONG PLAYERS. or you will not win.  The easiest time to do this is at the beginning of the merge in my opinion.  The numbers are wacky and people tend to flip.  However once they lock in on their new game plan they may ride it to the end, and you can forget anyone flipping.  Matty could provide himself some more power if he could win the immunity challenge.  This time he would have to beat everyone!  It was not in the cards however, as Natalie won with an absolutely stunning immunity victory.  I have to give it to the youngin’.  I have given her a lot of bashing on this blog, and then she shuts me up and wins the first individual immunity.  Following this challenge Matty found it necessary to convene with Rob, THE GUY WHO ORCHESTRATED HIS EXIT.  Why Matty?  Matty spills his entire plan to Rob and lets him know that he considered going to Zapatera.  Matty then said he was staying true to Ometepe.  I suppose he was trying to sound honorable.  To Boston Rob he just sounded like a fool.  Rob decided that was enough and tried to orchestrate a hit again on Matty.

Welcome To Survivor Hall Of Shame

I have really really been behind Matty on his run, and comeback back into this game.  But why?  Why could he just not come in and be the swing vote for Zapatera?  He was not going to be in a favorable position whereve he went, but don’t stir up trouble!  At tribal council the Zapatera remaining five placed all their votes on Grant.  Meanwhile Rob rallied his troops to place six votes on Matty,  including former buddy Andrea.  Matty unaware of everything going on was sent home.  Luckily for Matty a twist was added to this situation!  HE GOES BACK TO REDEMPTION HA!  I guess he just loves it there.  Matty will have new competitors soon, lets see if he can clean house again!  Lucky for Matty he wasn’t the only dummy.  Ralph decided to waste his idol to protect Mike at tribal when Mike was not even in danger.  DUMMY!  Next week supposedly there will be two tribal councils!  Can’t wait!

Charlie Sheen #LOSING

Charlie learned last night that stand-up comedy is not something one just acquires.  The man who thinks he is invincible finally caught a reality check in Detroit.  4,500 fans booed him clean off the stage in his debut comedy show at the Fox Theater.  Sheen has 20 more tour dates. Is it safe to say he has finally #LOST?  I don’t wish ill will on people, but it’s time to stop supporting this guy. Thank you Detroit!

Krashing Down Survivor: Episode 7

Episode 7: “It Don’t Take a Smart One”

Episode seven did not offer much besides setting up storylines for the looming merge.  From what I can see the power players going into the merge have become to form.  They could either be quick pickens or they could take it to the end and win this game.  Rob, Grant, David, and Phillip… yes Phillip will all play major roles in the rest of this game.

Destiny?

Do I even have to say who became victorious at redemption?  Once again Matty showed he has more inner and outer strength than all his competitors.  He beat Stephanie pretty handily at a memory game.  It was revealed after the episode that next week will be the final redemption challenge.  Now it’s time to dicuss his competitor!

Former NFL play or 100 lb chick: It Does NOT Matter

One thing I have always loved about Survivor is how you can have a stacked tribe of athletes or built dudes and they still lose in challenges.  The team challenges test one’s ability to communicate and work together as a team more than anything.  Zapatera can flex their muscles all they want, they cannot work together and it has become a psychological problem.  Lets look at the matchups here.  Zapatera has Mike – Iraq veteran, Steve – former NFL player, Julie – Firefighter.  Three people that one would think should physically be light years above the competition.  Yet they lose to Ometepe with Phillip who is out of shape, Natalie and Ashley who both are skinny girls with not much to offer.  Zapataera just plain sucks.  They showed it once again at the last challenge in which they actually faired well before having a meltdown at the end.  The other former NFL player, Grant for Ometepe, came through big scoring the majority of the points at the end of the challenge.  He drained four shots in a basketball goal out of five.  He is one of the best physical players on this game in years.  Probably the best since former winner J.T.  After Zapatera failed to win they were put at crossroads who to vote out of their original six alliance.  They could go with the waste of space Sarita, or vote off a solid player in David.  Sarita offers a guaranteed vote as she is a follower, but David helps keep the tribe strong physically.  Fortunately for the sometimes outspoken they voted Sarita out and banished her to redemption.

Merge Next Week UH OH!

The merge is a blessing for players like Phillip, Matty, and David right now.  However Boston Rob and Ralph are in immediate trouble.  First off Ralph blew his cover weeks ago when he revealed to Ometepe he had an immunity idol.  Rob and his gang will try to flush that out somehow ASAP.  However this is if Rob has numbers.  Assuming Matty comes back into the game from redemption, he could possible join Zapatera along with Phillip swinging the numbers around.  However NOBODY knows Rob has an immunity idol.  If he plays it right and puts votes on Ralph he could clear all idols from the game.  Maybe I’m just jumping the gun and hoping something this epic happens!  This game is about to get really fun now with the merge.  I still have a gut feeling Phillip will mess this entire game up for a couple people.  It will be hilarious!

1.  Rob – 3 Wins

Krashing Down Survivor: Episode 6

Episode 6: “Their Red-headed Step Child”

I know I know, the picture above of Phillip is DISGUSTING.  However I have to keep the pictures consistent with the show titles!  Much like the last episode, episode six did not have a ton to offer in terms of game changing sequences.  It was one of the most predictable episodes yet.  Regardless there is always something to talk about in the wild and wacky game of Survivor.

Redemption Island Bonding?

After last weeks episode Krista on the outskirts with Zapatera found herself banished to redemption with Matty.  Is it official to say it’s Matty’s island now?  The two seemed to hit it off well in their brief time at the island, sharing their deep faith with each other to build strength for the challenge.  Krista in my opinion was cheated from this game.  I truly believe she was a sweet girl, but had a lot to offer to the game if she ever had numbers.  Unfortunately for her she aligned with Russell and that is all it took.  The two had some very heart warming moments out on the beach leading up to the challenge, in which proved to be an absolute nail biter.  Krista had a lead on the redemption champion Matty most of the challenge.  To complete this challenge a ball maze had to be completed with several traps.  When Krista was about a foot away from winning, she drained her ball into a trap giving Matty all the time in the world to win.  As usual Matty seized the moment and won, continuing his shot at redemption.  Krista, a hard player was in tears but seemed to be okay with what transpired.  As a parting gift she gave Matty her luxury item, a Bible.  Matty talked about his faith, and the strength it has given him to continue on in these challenges.  I’m not one to always believe in divine forces and magical powers on the game of Survivor, but it is a great storyline.  I truly believe everyone in America is rooting for the good boy Matty to keep winning these challenges, I know a big part of me is as well.  Not just in Survivor but in life in general, when you become determined enough for something in your heart, it can become almost impossible to beat for another competitor.  Matty is in the zone right now, and it is awesome.

Ometepe A Dysfunctional Paradise

Ometepe started this game as the back burner tribe, but with a huge sway of momentum they have become the focus point of this game for me.  They have the kind of players that could not only win Survivor, but make it so others do not win.  Who comes to mind?  CIA specialist… Phillip. Phillip right now has dug himself such a big hole of craziness that people like Rob won’t vote him out.  He deflects attention away from power players, but don’t think he can’t end a power players game.  If Phillip stays around post merge I believe he will be a big part in a swing vote to dismantle a big name.  One thing I have definitely learned about Survivor is that loose cannons are good to keep around early, but later if you don’t extract the problem the cannon will turn onto you.  In Heroes Vs. Villains Sandra was a loose cannon, and the problem was never resolved.  She flew under the radar as a non threat and won the game.  This is an extreme case, but they can mess the game up for everyone!  Back to Phillip, he finally lost it on the lazy girls at camp.  I can’t blame him really, but you cannot go off at camp like that! He called out Ashley and Natalie for being worthless tribe mates and not doing anything.  Which is 110% true, they do not deserve to be on the game of Survivor and probably should not have been in casting.  Regardless these types of players are numbers, and will not steal your shot at a million dollars.  There is no need to lose it on them publicly, especially with the reputation Phillip has.  Good game, no?  Excellent, TV YES!!  I love watching Phillip have meltdowns every week, don’t vote him out Ometepe!  At the immunity challenge Ometepe DOMINATED and I mean dominated.  This one was not even close.  It was a launcher/catch the ball game.  Grant caught I believe three to four of the five points for Ometepe in a shutout victory.  Grant is a huge asset to the Ometepe physically, and I think he has a good head on his shoulders.  Currently Grant is Rob’s right hand man, but can he overcome that role in the future, to be the man who wins the game?

Zapatera A Tribe Of Losers

Zapatera continues to amaze me at their lack of ability to understand the game.  Essentially their grand strategy is to vote off people who came to play and make their tribe weaker in challenges.  Not only will they probably not have numbers at the merge, but they will have weaker strategic players.  Can you say screwed?  The vote was pretty simple this week after they lost immunity, vote of Stephanie.  David made a rally to vote off the worthless Sarita, and I semi salute him for trying to actually play Survivor.  However it’s too little too late, the game plan was already drawn and Stephanie was voted out.  Stephanie is a great athletic player and I can see her giving Matty a bit of a run next week at redemption.  Zapatera’s choice to keep Sarita over Stephanie will cause them to completely cave in.  Sarita is about as worthless at challenges as they come, and members of the tribe already cannot stand her.  Somebody needs to take charge on that tribe and figure out their direction, or Boston Rob will figure it out for them when he picks them all off one by one, post merge.  David may want to start playing, but will anybody play his type of game with him?  We will see.
