Benedict Cumberbatch is known for heroic characters like Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Strange but he legitimately came to the rescue of a guy who was being mugged in London.
Last November Benedict was in an Uber with his wife when he saw four men attacking a bicycle deliveryman. So he jumped out of the car and ran over. The Uber driver followed and they were able to get the muggers to take off.
The driver says:
“I had hold of one lad and Benedict another. He seemed to know exactly what he was doing. He was very brave. He did most of it, to be honest. Benedict was courageous, brave and selfless. If he hadn’t stepped in the cyclist could have been seriously injured.”
Interestingly enough, this all went down near Sherlock Holmes’ fictional address of 221B Baker Street. Benedict didn’t try to take any credit. He said, quote, “I did it out of, well, I had to, you know.”
