A Doctor Delivered a Baby in the Middle of a 12-Hour Flight

A pregnant woman from Taiwan boarded a China Airlines flight to Los Angeles last Thursday.  She had started her trip in Bali and the entire journey was supposed to take 19 hours.

She was just under eight months pregnant, which is less than 32 weeks.  So totally legit to fly.  But about six hours in, her WATER broke.  Yep, that’s seriously premature.

At that point it made more sense to divert the plane to Alaska than to turn around.  So the pilot headed for Anchorage, while a flight attendant got on the P.A. to ask if there was a doctor on board.  And luckily, there was.

He helped the woman through it, along with four flight attendants.  And according to one of the passengers, everyone on board stayed quiet the entire time, so it was as stress-free as possible.

She gave birth to a baby girl 30 minutes before they touched down, and they’re both doing fine.  The flight eventually landed in L.A. three hours behind schedule.  And no, we’re not sure if she was trying to have the kid here because of the citizenship thing.
