Back in July, a 35-year-old in Tampa named Jennifer went on a Tinder date with a 43-year-old named Rich O’Dea. And they ended up deciding to just be friends. But it did lead to a different kind of match.
While they were on their date Rich mentioned that his best friend’s wife had been on a waiting list for a new kidney for about three years.
Her name is Erika and she’s a 47-year-old mother of two with a genetic disorder called polycystic kidney disease. Then about a week later Rich got a text from Jennifer asking how she could get tested to find out if she could donate a kidney.
Rich says she also asked about it on their date. But he didn’t think she was serious because they’d just met.
It turned out she was serious though. And after about three months of testing, Erika’s doctors found out she and Jennifer were a perfect match. The transplant is happening next Wednesday.
