There’s no doubt that one of the things that made “American Idol” an immediate sensation was the TERRIBLE AUDITIONS. But a lot has changed in the years since it’s inception and Idol wants to change with it.
When ABC brings Idol back they’ll no longer be airing the auditions that don’t really have a shot of making it to the next round. Showrunner Trish Kinane said, “It doesn’t feel comfortable to put borderline unstable people up on stage and laugh at them. We want the humor but we don’t want the exploitation.”
That doesn’t mean every audition will be serious necessarily but this will also reduce the number of people who are auditioning as a joke just to get on TV.
