Blue Bell licker tracked down to Lufkin store, could face 20 years in prison, police say

In a video that went viral last week, a woman licked Blue Bell  ice cream out of the carton and put it back on the shelf at a Texas location of a retail giant. Now, she is facing up to 20 years in prison, police said Thursday.

The video footage, which has more than 12 million views on Twitter as of Friday morning, shows the unidentified woman standing in the aisle at a grocery store as she runs her tongue across the top of an open half-gallon of Blue Bell Tin Roof ice cream.

She can then be seen laughing as she puts the lid back on the container and returns it to the freezer.

Police said Wednesday they’ve obtained surveillance video placing a woman matching the suspect description at the Lufkin Walmart store at 2500 Daniel McCall Drive on June 28 at around 11 p.m.

Police said they’re working to verify the identity of the female suspect before a warrant is issued for her arrest.

The charge is of tampering with a consumer product, police said. It is a second-degree felony, which carries a punishment range of two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000, according to the Texas penal code.

FDA and federal charges may also be pending, police said.

Detectives are also working to identify the male who filmed the viral video.
