CORPUS CHRISTI, Tex. (WTHR) — One Walmart in Texas is taking extra precautions to keep its Blue Bell ice cream safe from contamination.
A viral video showing a woman grabbing a tub of Blue Bell ice cream, licking it and placing it back on the shelf gained national attention.
The Corpus Christi Walmart has placed “extra security” near its Blue Bell ice cream to avoid a similar incident.
“We’re guarding our Blue Bell Ice cream for your weekend party,” the caption says.
Earlier this week, police said the woman who licked the ice cream and put it back on shelves was in a Walmart in Lufkin, Texas.
Police said they will not rest until the suspect, who was captured on surveillance video, is caught.
The woman will face a charge of second-degree felony tampering with a consumer product when she is arrested. Video shows the woman was accompanied by a man and police are hoping to identify him as well. The charge comes with a two- to 20-year prison term and up to $10,000 in fines, according to Texas state penal code.
In a response to the video, Blue Bell wrote:
“This type of incident will not be tolerated. Food safety is a top priority, and we work hard to provide a safe product and maintain the highest level of confidence from our consumers.”
